 Children's Classes    Ages 6 - 12
We use the Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design curriculum: the #1 sewing program specially designed for teaching kids to sew. It has been used since 1983.  Thousands and thousands of kids have learned to sew with this easy to follow workbook and patterns designed so even the youngest (6 yrs) can follow it.   There are 7-9 months of  projects and learning in each workbook level.

Students will learn to sew basic clothing items such as skirts, blouses, pants, and nightshirt.  They will also learn to use the basic pattern and alter it to  design their own style.  This learning will be in a positive, encouraging environment where students progress at their own pace.  They will surprise themselves and you at how much creativity, individuality, and style will come out as they learn this wonderful life skill.

Classes are 1 hour weekly, all sewing done in class.  Each student has their own workbook and patterns.  Each level has 7 to 9 months of projects to fill an entire school year of learning and having fun.

 Classes will be taught on computerized Janome sewing machines with one step buttonholes, 30 stitches and dropping feed dogs for free-motion sewing and  quilting. ( See illustration at right.)
                                                                                                                                                  
Skill Level #1  (9 + projects)
Learn the basics: operation of the sewing machine, fabric layout, cutting, elastic casings, hemming, facings, and Much, more!  Projects include, sewing & notions bags, peasant blouse, nightshirt, pants, square neck blouse, denim skirt, round neck blouse, etc..

Skill Level #2  (8 projects)
Level #2 is started after all the projects in Level #1 are completed.  Fleece fabrics are introduced as well as top stitching, ribbing, sewing on buttons, adding  pockets and two sleeve types.  Projects include sport pants, tank top, sport capris, sports blouse, sport shorts, sport shirt, and ruffled skirt.

Skill Level #3  (8 projects)
Level 3 teaches skills for zippers, fuse on interfacing, lining, waistbands, buttonholes, fly front, circular hemming, sewing on hooks and eyes.  Projects include: button vest, t-shirt, circle skirt, leggings, overall shorts, sport shirt, velcro, sleep shirt and more.

Skill level #4  (10 project variations)
This specialty pattern packet is a variety of sports tops, shorts and leggins using spandex or lycra  fabric and a serger.  These are for the advanced sewer.
