Why learn to sew?
Sewing is a skill that will last a lifetime. It enhances creativity, builds self-esteem, encourages optimism, and reduces stress. It also develops patience and perseverance, enhances problem solving and other life/work skills. More importantly, it leads you to be constructive, creative, and it's just great Fun!! Decorate your world with your taste and your style!
The beginner can start with KidsCanSew for Teens or Adults workbook/pattern sets. Or after the basics have been learned, the student can progress to : You Can Make It! which is a 7 level teaching system using commercial patterns and altering them to fit you.
Patterns are chosen for each level from commercial pattern lists the teacher supplies.
Each You Can Make It! level has student handouts that can be collected in a folder and kept as reference material. At the completion of each level students receive a patch proclaiming their success. In level 2 students make a sewing bag to which the patches can be attached and skills not used in the level garments but learned, can be completed on the bag. The bag can be used as a great traveling sewing "box" to bring supplies with the student to class.
Also available are videos for each level that give step by step instruction echoing the lessons, so review at home can be a breeze. Multiple viewings make retention of the skills learned easier.

The You Can Make It! 7 levels include:
Level 1: Learn the basics: pattern (selection, choosing, sizing, understanding), guide sheets, fabric layouts, pinning, cutting, marking, sewing, hemming, and SO MUCH MORE!
Level 2: Darts, pleats, tucks, zippers, waistbands, vents, slits, snaps, buttons, hooks & eyes, straps, Velcro and SO MUCH MORE!
Level 3: Facings, simple sleeves, simple collars, ruffle collars, front closures, ruffles, lace, trims, pockets, special seams and SO MUCH MORE!!
Level 4: I will show you everything about: Stripes & Plaids; Easy layouts & Matching, Altering jumper patterns, Bias tape, Piping, Stitched elastic and SO MUCH MORE!
Level 5: Learn all there is to know about pants. I will show you how to make them and how to fit them. Learn about working napped fabrics, lapped & invisible zippers, pockets, belt carriers, eyelets and SO MUCH MORE!
Level 6: If you want professional looking garments and to achieve a perfect fit this is the one for you! I will show you how to do buttonholes, collars, sleeves, plackets, special closures and SO MUCH MORE!
Level 7: Do you think tailoring skills are difficult? I'll change your mind with Level 7! I'll show you how to do welt pockets, bound buttonholes, linings and SO MUCH MORE!!

You Can Make It fit! for Skirts or Pants
2-3 hour class $65.95 ( $45 + $24.95 DVD ) Scheduled as needed - contact us max 6 students
Classes for learning to adjust store bought clothing to fit you. The adjustments covered are reductions. Most ready-made have little or no seam allowances making enlargements impossible. With a 2-3 hour class, you can learn to shorten, taper, or waist adjust either pants or skirts. Included in the class tuition is a video. Take it home to remind you of what was learned in class so you can do it again and again.
